Biography

“Neikrug sings beyond her years, and while her technique and flexibility are striking, it’s her soulfulness that startles and lingers.”
-Downbeat Magazine

Arianna Neikrug is a New York City-based vocalist, songwriter, arranger, and recording artist. Following her studies at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, Arianna established herself as a mainstay of the jazz community with her first-prize victory in the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition (2015) and her critically acclaimed debut outing on Concord Records, Changes (2018). A natural-born performer, she brings charm and charisma to the stage and delights her audiences with expressiveness and humor.

After spending the better part of a decade immersed in the Great American Songbook, Arianna was ready to step out from behind the standards and find her own artistic voice. Arianna's forthcoming album, Deep Blue (Fall 2026), which is her first entry in the pop/singer-songwriter space, represents the culmination of that years-long effort. Deep Blue is not only a long-anticipated sophomore studio album; it is also a reintroduction to an artist defiantly doing things on her own terms across 13 tracks on which she is the sole singer, songwriter, arranger, and producer.

With Deep Blue, Arianna carves out a fresh and intriguing new idiom in pop, while also revealing the depth and breadth of her influences beyond jazz, as will be immediately apparent to fans of Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, and, more contemporaneously, the likes of Sara Bareilles, Brandi Carlile, and Regina Spektor. The result is a lyrically powerful meditation on self-doubt, the life of an artist, perseverance, and the search for meaning and joy, all packaged musically in warm, vital, infectious, and expertly-constructed pop songs—and all delivered with Arianna's characteristic blend of both technical mastery and genuine soul.

"Neikrug distinguishes herself as a fresh new force in vocal jazz on the winning Changes."
     -PASTE

"As the set proceeds,...the scale of Neikrug’s talent becomes apparent. Her grip on time is quite extraordinary, and her scat singing totally convincing. It’s all a little intense, but, as a display of endless potential, hugely impressive. 4 Stars."
     -The Guardian (UK)

"...the arrival of a major new talent."
     -JAZZtimes

"Neikrug won first prize at the 2015 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, but she wears her expertise lightly; she isn't a pyrotechnic stylist, and her approach feels as balanced as a summer cocktail."
     -WBGO.org

"...Of the fresh batch of vocalists cropping up on today's scene, no one interprets a lyric quite like her."
     -JAZZIZ Magazine

"Neikrug sings beyond her years, and while her technique and flexibility are striking, it's her soulfulness that startles and lingers."
     -Downbeat Magazine

"She offers the kind of sophistication and depth in her voice that's hard to teach, augmented by occasional scatting. She's surely one to watch."
     -Toledo Blade

"[Changes] is a marvelous debut by an already accomplished vocalist...One expects to hear more about Arianna Neikrug in the future."
